Join our team of Critical Care nurses

Whether you are new to nursing, new to the critical care unit, or have years of experience, we have a role for you.

Our dedicated team of nurses are passionate about caring for our patients as they would for their loved ones, and are supported as respected members of our multi-disciplinary team.

The unit is a busy one with a wide range of patients, both elective and emergency, and all new starters begin with a supernumerary period to help you settle in. You will not have your own patients during this time but will instead have the chance to work with a more experienced member of staff. This means you are helped and supported to gain the fundamental skills as you familiarise yourself with the environment and equipment and how to care for the critically ill patient safely.

Newly qualified nurses will follow our preceptorship programme, while our dedicated Critical Care education team provide a structured development programme for Band 5 nurses. There are also opportunities for further learning and development thanks to our excellent links with Canterbury Christ Church University.

More senior nurses can take part in simulation days, advanced ventilation workshops and study days, as well as developing leadership skills within the team.

There is also the opportunity to apply for the ITU course run by Greenwich University.

We can also support you if you are returning to nursing, working with Canterbury Christ Church University to offer an accredited return to practice programme.

Our nurses’ voices are valued and you will make a real difference every day to our critically ill patients. What could be more rewarding than that?
